Building a new highway is often thought of as a solution to the city's traffic problems. On the other hand, the number of private vehicle drivers increases with each highway built. Drivers tend to use more private vehicles with increased roads rather than using alternative modes of transportation such as public transportation or bicycles. As a result, every highway built causes a new traffic problem.

As a result, some cities have decided to turn their once designated highways for vehicles into urban parks and get less congested streets.
Here we see six of these cities. Some of them are still under construction while others are finished.
Harbor Drive, Portland – USA
Begun in 1974, this road is now Tom McCall Park, a bridge for cyclists and pedestrians connecting First Avenue to the park.
Cheonggyecheon, Seoul – South Korea
The Cheonggyecheon highway in Seoul has been turned into an urban park to prevent environmental and noise pollution.
Pier Freeway, San Francisco
Originally used as a highway, it was converted into a park because of the cost of repairing the damage caused by the 1989 earthquake.
Madrid Rio, Madrid
The fact that this place, where the historical texture of the city is felt, is a park is another happiness. Also in this example, the driveway was not completely removed and some of the traffic was dissolved underground.
Park East Freeway, Milwaukee
This project, which was planned in the 1960s, was stopped due to the complaints of the residents about possible noise. It was also significantly demolished between 1999-2002. It was rescheduled as the East Corridor Park Project. With this project, direct access to the river from the city center is provided.
Alaskan Way, Seattle
The overpass, which was severely damaged by the 2001 earthquake, was later converted into an underground tunnel with the change in plan. Thus, areas in Elliot Bay were connected to other parts of the city by a pedestrian axis.
